Exhibition „FremdSprachKunstGalerie“ (Hanover)

Exhibition „FremdSprachKunstGalerie“ (Hanover)

The concept of the gallery is based on the master's seminar „Aesthetic Language Development“ led by Elena Kammerer. In this course, German teacher training students explore foreign and multilingual poetry holistically and translate their sensory impressions into creative artistic productions. The results of these works are exhibited to the public at the end of the semester.

The aim of this innovative teaching format is to make language a creative and sensual experience. The seminar focussed on the artistic exploration of foreign-language poetry. To this end, the students analysed poems of their own choice, and later also the poetry of 15 foreign language learners from Hanover. However, the aim is explicitly not to analyse the poems in the traditional way. Instead, without translation and without analytical interpretation, the participants gain multidimensional, physical and emotional access to the language through sound, typeface and rhythm. The concept opens up access to multilingualism and encourages reflection on language as an aesthetic medium.
