Cities are facing rapidly growing challenges due to increasing heat stress in the summer. To meet these challenges, cities must be redesigned to ensure that urban spaces remain livable, especially for future generations. However, young people are rarely involved in the ideation and decision-making processes for such redesigns.<\/p>\n
The project "Our City Should Become Cooler" aims to identify particularly heat-affected locations within the city limits in collaboration with students and to create a heat map for Braunschweig based on the collected data. Following this, the students' ideas on how they would redesign these locations in the future will be gathered. These ideas will be visualized together and exhibited at the Sustainability Center in Braunschweig.<\/p>\n
In addition to the heat map and the collection of ideas, the project aims to more actively involve young people in urban planning and future issues. Through the project, they can expand their knowledge of the climate crisis and urban climate, gain skills in scientific data collection and interpretation, and sharpen their understanding of the connections between urban design and quality of life.
